Monobloc on early G9

Post by Trefor »

I have just just acquired a 1953 G9 fitted with the early remote float chamber carb. After my experience with my '52 G80S I'm keen to fit a 376/6 monobloc as fitted to the 1955 onwards G9s. Two questions - does the monobloc fit in the older frame and does the standard jet work ok.

It'll go on, yup. Mine is late '53, (54 model) with the same sloping seat pillar etc and a 376 goes on OK. Jetted per book for '55 if I recall - 240 main, #4 slide and whatever pilot and needle are specified. It is a jiggle to get the flange over studs (screws would be easier, one side at least, if the threads are good in the manifold), and you'll probably / might have to get the fuel filter banjo off from the float chamber to clear the battery mounting, or loosen / remove the thing. This pic is already on here somewhere, but here it is again . .
Cable run is OK - mine's run a 376 since the mid-1970s, as I find it leak-free compared to the Type 76.

For 55 the first yr of the monobloc the carbs on the twins were held on with bolts 016724 to enable easier fitting. Bolts were used on the later twins 60- under Pt No 026749

The hole in the frame where the air filter hose goes is larger for the 376 models, from '55 and up.
