How Available Are Useable G9 Cranks 1951-54 Types?

Post by peterg123 »

I had 2, stolen for scrap a while ago and here in Kenya zero chance of ever finding another one. I may have to look around UK or Europe but don't want to go on a wild goose chase.

I have heard useable early 500cc cranks are more available that the later 650 because they were ridden less hard and thus also less liable to snap.

Thanks for any pointers.

For the overwhelming lack of response, it would appear not available!

You could try an advert in the magazine which reaches many more members than the website. A wanted ad is £5 for guests and free for full members but I imagine carriage to Kenya is going to be an issue. In the 8 or so years I have been doing the adverts I do not think cranks have been advertised very often, but that may just be because of the carriage.

Thanks Clive...carrriage to Kenya is not that much of an issue, there is consolidated sea frieght at 2.50 a kilo..then most airlines are desperate and are giving 2 x 23kgs allowances.

I expect you may have seen that there are a couple of complete bottom ends for a Model 20 on eBay. A ‘51 in the UK and a ‘54 in the US. Good hunting!

Hi Iron Head I have not seen the UK one....I asked elsewhere if someone knows the difference between the G9 cranks with round cheeks ( 51 models) and the later ones with Triangular shaped cheeks? I was presuming the round cheeked ones...no replies, maybe you know? I suspect the round chkked crank is the narrow centre bearing one. That's for the heads up, I'll check out eBay.

Problem is the USA ebay guy simply does not reply to any queries.

The UK one is ending in a day, no bids yet starting price £300. Includes barrels crankcases and oil pumps but it is seized.
Depending on the ebay settings of the seller you may not be able to see it.

If you use picclick.co.uk (or .com for US) to search you will see all ads even if they are not applicable for your region or other criteria eBay may have put restrictions on.

https://picclick.co.uk/ajs-model-20-195 ... 90205.html

Looks like a good engine. Even has the original BHB pistons.
