Yes, thanks again. Just a rule I use in memory and didnt get in to it in above ... never use a paper/felt (micron) filter on the suction side of the pump. Such, as the main felt filter i got is on the pressure side /return line of the pump. A mesh screen gauze sieve is o.k on the suction side (as it is in most oil tanks) of the pump. Save pump life as well as long its not blocked ?!

I suppose that, with a larger capacity tank (it is larger?) , the oil moves around less and has a better chance of settling any sludge out, so the felt filter is not needed .. l

When I bought my current 16ms I found a PO had connected the pipes the wrong way round, engine feed from the top and return to the bottom .. luckily had not done many miles that way ..

The Owners Manual shows 4 1/2 pints for the '54 and 5 pints for the '55 onward but I think it's doubtful that the larger tank is the reason for omitting the filter although I can't think of any reason for omitting the filter, except that didn't they fit a magnetic crankcase drain plug around that time? (I can't be asked to look up any more manuals ;) )

Glad to hear that your computer exercises protected sex. Good general practice IMO, there's a lot of 'puta viruses out there.
