Thanks! And with the correct chain guard I will need a ……

How much of this stuff is interchangeable with the 1955 Matchless? Will a 1955 Matchless s/a and chain guard fit?

Yes, the swinging arm is a straight swap. You can change the brackets around on your chainguard to make it fit. Your brake plate should have one slot in the middle, could be altered to fit.

Is my one piece rear fender correct or should it be a 2 piece?

For 1955 18S it should be two piece to aid removal of QD wheel.

Thanks Reynard, I will keep looking for one

I now have the correct swing arm.

I still need to verify I have all the correct spacers for the rear axle. .

I’m going to put the rear wheel on hold as I just opened another can of worms …..the clutch/primary.

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the swing arm without removing the inner primary cover?

Unfortunately you do have to remove the clutch and primary chaincase.
