Hi everyone, I was hoping for some help in regards to a 1946 Matchless 500 rockerbox stay. I would like to know whether it did in fact have a rockerbox stay. I recently purchased a frame and it had a bracket on the top frame tube which I am told is for the bracket but I cannot seem to find the bracket in my parts book. I have attached a pic of what is on the frame, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Steve.

Re: Engine stay
Try looking at the parts list again. Rocker box stay is a section after overhead rockers.
The stay consists of the clip you have plus a bracket 010931 which goes to one of the rockerbox bolts with an extension. Unfortunately the bracket is not illustrated that I can see but I would suggest is a flat plate hole each end and 90 degree twist. Only fitted to the 500 so I don't have one on my 350 with coil spring head. The later heads (both Iron and alloy) with hairpin valves had a different shaped rockerbox and the triangular stay bracket had two holes along the bottom edge and two extended bolts.

Re: Engine stay
On some old hondas they run smoother without a head steady! Just a thought!

Re: Engine stay
Assuming the 46 engine has the correct coil spring for the valves rather the later hairspring valves then it will have a different rockerbox and steady from the one Sam has illustrated. only one extended bolt.
