1951 Tailights

Post by cammyaj01 »

Hi , I’ve got a 1951 18S
I believe that it should originally be fitted with only a tail light( no stoplight)
Lucas 467/2 type?
This is a brass chromed item very much like a number plate light fitted on English cars but it has a red lens visible through two “windows” cut into the metal body.
Can anyone supply a photo of an original for me and also say whether they were fitted to any other years ?
I’m going to have a go at making a couple from some number plate lights that I have bought

My 49 (50 reg) G80S has an original one of those lamps fitted - and yes, you do need a stop lamp. Mine has a small globe twin filament fitted. They are available in 6v but take some finding.

Thanks for that.
It seem like they were fitted in 1949,1950and 1951 then at least.

Not strictly true, I have built a 350 off roader with a reg number and no lights at all which is perfectly legal to use in daylight hrs.

My take on the tail light.
Convert a Land rover number plate.
