It runs! After a lay-off for a few weeks to sort out garden and house chores, I have just dedicated a few days to the project. On Mick D's advice, I decided to keep the Lucas SR1 original, just fitted a Easycap and a replacement coil. I now have a good spark so the electronic ignition can wait a while. I struggled to sort the timing until I realised I was making a schoolboy error. The replacement ADT I bought had 18 teeth whereas the cam gear has 17 ! After being sent heaven-ward a few times trying to kick over the bucking bronco (rhyming slang) and re-setting the ignition a couple of times I eventually sussed the problem, fortunately, the worn ADT I had, donated the correct gear. I timed it again and it started third kick!
Now to see if the Dynamo works, the wiring loom, courtesy of Colin Farrington is in place along with a solid state control unit. The Dynamo has been Flashed so fingers crossed.
I never acquired a correct headlamp but have located a tatty-ish one with underslung pilot light which will do until a lamp with a Speedo hole turns up.
To be continued ....

Advice on piston
I have a unused piston lurking in bottom of the box, marked LEX and 38/G9/E12 underneath and 010955 +.003 special F on the crown. It is 82.5mm diameter.
Has anyone information on it?

The conversion list of old to new part numbers on the archives.jampot.dk website lists 010955 / 38 G9 E12, as a standard bore bare piston. The 1938 spares list shows it fits a G90 Super Clubman 500cc OHV Model.

Re: G80s box of bits
Thank you for that, didn't realise the "38" related to year, with that info, I tried to find the barrel I also have with the number 45 G8L E1 but I came unstuck as the spares list jumps from 41 to 46. The barrels are still marked 41 on later lists also.

Re: G80s box of bits
That is a casting number not a part number. (Its more likely G3L rather than G8L but not that important). My understanding is that the early part numbers showed the first date that the part was used but it may have continued in use for many years afterwards. An example is the AJS single magneto cover part number 38-22-E29 used on road models up to 1955 and for trials machines longer than that.

Thank you Clive for making sense of (to me) a confusing catalogue system!
