light or heavy weight model 18
Hi Im very new to british bikes .I have a model 18s coming to me soon is this a light or heavy weight ajs .Thanks also is the kick start spring easy like a jap bike

It's definately a heavyweight. What year is it? I presume the kickstart spring is broken? Usually fairly easy to change, entailing removal of the gearbox end cover. You can see manuals etc here: http://archives.jampot.dk

Not really the model 18 was made until the mid 60's. Your '57 18S will have an AMC gearbox (the first year of this excellent box). Make sure you get the correct kickstart spring as there are 2 types.

Think I may have wrong spring or there’s something missing from shaft . Spring will not stay in the hole in the casting. Made throttle cable and got decompressor to work This needs a longer cable and It fired up but only ran for a few seconds it was 1.50 am. it’s alive at least
