Burman sleeve gear play
My Main shaft has about 12 thou play (0.3mm) up and down/ side to side, so the sleeve gear bushes are worn, however I cannot find a maximum limit for the wear, accepting this is an oil grease mix box then is this within tolerance or way out?

Re: Burman sleeve gear play
Hi
When I re-bushed my sleeve gear I was advised to allow 0.003" - 0.005" clearance i if yours isn't leaking or noisy I'd be tempted to 'suck it and see'
Regards Mick

Phil Irving says in Tuning for Speed that ideally you should aim for 2 thou play, but up to 6 thou is acceptable. However, the book was aimed at racers so I'm sure a bit more wouldn't hurt on a roadster that will probably do less than 1,000 miles per year at under 60mph - I tend to agree with Mick. Andy
