A question for Spriddler

Post by Diana3899 »

Hi Spriddler, can you please tell me the thickness of the spacer between your carb and cylinder head. I assume it is 3/4" but I may be wrong.

Thanks.

Have just been down the shed and yes, 3/4" thick and a pretty hard composite type of material. Not as hard as Bakelite but not as soft as rubber.
It's fitted so I can't tell you whether it's 1" bore to match the carb or 1 1/16" to match the head.
Here's a 'library' pic of it on my G3LS with the 1" carb............

Surrey cycles sell a range of spaces in different thicknesses and bores

https://surreycycles.com/product/tufnel-spacers/

Ive chamfered the spacer in the past if necessary with a file to match if the head is larger diameter , this avoids a step

Thanks for that response which is most helpful. By the way I have already checked the Surrey Cycles catalogue and they do indeed do spacers but list one at 26mm and a larger one at 28 mm whereas by my calculation 1 1/16 bore works out at 26.9mm as near as dammit 27mm. So I will probably have to buy the 26mm and file it out to get to 26.9mm.

TBH I wouldn't worry about 0.9mm. It's only a 0.45mm step.
I'd try it before opening it up.

The new carb spacers are metric and it's a case of buying and prepping to fit.
