Tyres AJS M16 1946

Post by iolex »

Looking at fitting new tyres to my machine.

I was going to fit Dunlop 3.25x19 K70s but am now thinking of fitting Mitas 3.25x19 TT H-01 tyres.
They still retain the vintage look but with a rounder profile.

I have done a lot of online research on these tyres with very good reviews and scores in review sites.
A number say their main complaint is that they wear out quickly which surely must mean they are softer and therefore stickier. Right?

I am hardly going to ride around scratching my knees on this, I leave that to when I’m riding my Ducati !!

My question is, are there any of you out there using these tyres and if so, are they any good? Opinions only from people who use them please.

Many thanks.

I fitted Mitas to my G3LS but I went for 3.50 19 H-02 as most members feel they seem to be a size down on the usual brands. They look much more traditional than H-01 too (in my opinion). They do ride ok but I prefer Avon skidmasters.

Mitas generally have a softer side wall , and just about fit them selves . i found a mitas with a flat gives little protection against the tyre moving and ripping the valve out before you can stop if you get instant flat. I always use Dunlop K70 on my bikes including my 1946 G80 . you wont get many miles out of any modern tyre unlike when i first got my G80 it had war time type tyres with no tread left

I have been using Mitas tyres for the last sixteen years. I find that they hold the road beautifully. I have not had a puncture while using them
they do wear faster than some others but I find that I get around 4,500 miles from the rear and over 10,000 from the front. considering the
price of Dunlops Iwould say they are also really cost efective.

I’ve used Mitas and K70s on the rears of my CSR and Dommie and have been happy with both tyres, about 3500 to 4000 miles on average.
The Mitas perhaps wearing a little more quickly, they are however much cheaper.
