1961 AJS350. 16

Post by Peter Wilkinson »

Hi Folks, I have reassembled a 1961 AJS 350./ 16 from 3 crates of bits ( never again ! ) turned out some parts were for twins. It is fitted with a Lucas SR1 magneto c/w auto advance, I am now at start up time, there's a good spark at the plug , but fires only occasionally. I cannot find the ignition settings anywhere for this exact model, only for similar models. The settings I have used are spark plug .015" and with the head off and a straight edge across the cylinder top and set the piston to 7/16" BTDC , mag points .012" and the auto/adv wedged open.( The valve timing is spot on. )
Anyone any ideas on the settings ?

That' should be ok but open the plug setting to 22thou. Make sure you're on the right stroke ie compression (both valves closed.)
Dave.
