Here are my findings Taz...
A friend came round this afternoon and we took out both my 350 "specials".
The "over geared" one has a '59 long stroke alternator engine and the other a '56-'59 short stroke alloy engine.
I sort of wished I hadn't thought about the ratios as I felt I had already pre-judged what it would be like, but I was surprised! It was rideable... I often found myself in 3rd when I would normally be in top. It seemed happy enough in top pulling 40-50mph on the flat but didn't want to pull those speeds up a moderate incline. No big hills were encountered, so that's for another day :?
My friend had never riden an AMC 350 heavyweight and we both rode both bikes. I asked him what he thought and he said he preferred the long stroke. I asked why and he replied that it was more responsive and went better... 🤔
