Post by Tazmantic »

The clip round the frame is supposed to go inside the bracket rather than either side that is why there is a cut off. This allows the frame clip to tighten round the frame properly. Does look tall though, anyone got one off the bike they can measure?

Thanks Clive I presumed the bracket went inside the clamp so that info helps, just not sure what’s wrong as I was going to make one but decided to buy one for easy and it doesn’t fit 🤦???

Just measured and it’s 1 7/8 from the flat bottom to the highest point

The original one I've got is 1 3/4". It's got the usual crack from the rocker box bolt and looks too thin and is also bent. I've never had an original one that wasn't cracked. It was obviously an afterthought, a very poor design in my opinion. I'd just grind a bit off the top to make it fit and weld it up to close the slot.

Doubt it if everything else lines up ok, unless the top tube is bent ;) It would be easy enough to either make one or alter that one so it fits - you could always thin down the 'nut' section of the studs in a lathe to lower it. You ought to try restoring a Panther. You soon learn to get on with it and fettle stuff.
