1955 G3ls front wheel and forks

Post by Tazmantic »

Hi can anyone confirm what this front wheel and forks are? Are they G3ls or Norton like I was told

Cheers

Hi

The forks look like a period AMC set with the addition of non standard gaiters, possibly covering rusted or modified slider extensions.

Not sure about the wheel, but a 55 should have a full width alloy hub I think.

That’s a ‘54 front hub, ‘55 is the usual barrel shaped FWH but the brake lever is at the bottom (as on the 54) rather than behind the fork for 1956 on.

Hi, its difficult to tell from the picture but it looks like you have a 1948/9 two bolt fixing brake plate fitted that has had the torque arm drilled to mount it part way up. If so ideally you should either change the lower fork leg that the plate should bolt to or change the brake plate/hub and replace the torque arm.

Hi all took front wheel out today and though its the wrong one I'm going to have to use it unless anyone has a 1955 complete front wheel for sale..... thing is I'm not sure if it was together correctly and wondered if there was a detailed pic of all spacers and nuts etc ;) or if someone could sketch one.

There was a nut inside the brake plate but no nut on the outside even though the threads protrude past the brake plate?? should there be one on either side or is it just a spacer on the outside... I found a diagram in the archives but it doesn't show an assembly drawing.

Thanks
