Thanks for advice Duncan. I didn’t resort to ‘all out violence’ with it so pretty sure I haven’t caused any damage. Seems free at the moment and, in hindsight, the improvement did occur after the application of heat. Clive, clarification, threaded side of spindle as per instruction book.

Duncan spot on, 4/5 years ago the MoT tester ( well used to old machines ) said there was roughness in the f/wheel bearing.
With the brake shoes out and energetic use of the grease gun, all solved and still in situ.
