gearbox G88 G50 kickstart spindle oil leak

Post by mavs »

gearbox G88 G50 (1952 AJS c16ms )
the kickstart spindle is dropping oil even when stood when filled with one pint of oil as per manual. There is a washer holding in a fibre seal.
Is this washer screw in and in which direction, or a prise out. The previous owner solved this by running the gearbox with little oil.
Thought I'd ask the forum before ruining the washer and/or case.
Cheers

I run my GB box with semi-liquid grease. It's drastically reduced any leakage.

Without checking, I recall I have seen a washer crimped in by the alloy of the outer case so I think you have to relive the alloy to remove it, are you able to post a picture?

many thanks to all who replied. After considering all the forum inputs regarding this subject, the fact that there is only a felt seal in the kickstart bush and when I drained the g/box there was a trace of lithium in the drained oil, I have decided to go with the semi fluid lubricant option. Cheers
