oil tank gauze filter .. Model 31 1959
I need a new 'in tank' oil feed filter for my 1959 M31 ..
The parts list appears to illustrate it as part number 015198 , but I cant find that number in the listing.
Searching club spares it confirms the number as the 'in tank' filter but describes it as ...
(015198)
OIL FEED FILTER; METAL GAUZE 1960-ON C & CS AND 1961-ON ROAD MODELS
Can anyone confirm it is the correct item or, if not, what is the one that I need?
Thanks ..

I think it's like this, depends what type of oil tank you have...
Some tanks have two tubes sticking out of the bottom, on these the filter is just pushed up the one of the tubes.
Other tanks have one tube and a threaded hole, these have a screw in filter like so I remember I had confusion with the tank with two tubes as to which tube was which

Re: oil tank gauze filter .. Model 31 1959
If we're talking about the fine mesh item that slips into the feed pipe at the tank end of the line, I think 015198 is probably right. But on my own machines I dispensed with them long ago, after finding one was on the blocked up side of gungy. Nothing bad has happened ever since in a gazillion miles - but a man who knows, like ajscomboman, will probably drop in to confirm best practice.
I rely on having clean oil tanks, a clean main filter and regular oil changes, while touching wood with crossed fingers.
My own tanks, early and late, have parallel stubs for neoprene pipes, so dunno about JB's option. The earlier one has the big felt and gauze return line filter as well (yours doesn't), which never gives grief and never even looks dirty. Which says the main filter does its job - maybe! That usually has a few tiny shiny flakes (on the right side of the felt) when I change the oil.
I suppose we should all think about additional modern external return line filters too, but apart from on one bike which came with one, I've never gone there I must admit.

Re: oil tank gauze filter .. Model 31 1959
That's quite neat JB if it's on the pressure (feed) side. Most of those jobbies go in the return line (typically, on Notruns, Beesas etc using 2CV Citroën and similar), which isn't such a good place in terms of catching crud before it gets to the guts of the beast. Must be a bit of plumbing in the filter head I presume, to send the slime on its merry way towards the centre main, distributor bush etc?

Thanks for the responses ..
It would appear that 015198 is the part , despite the spares dept saying that it is from '60 onwards ..
Thanks again for your comments ..

All sorted, appears the filter description was incorrectly listed as the gauze filter fits all oil tank feed pipes 1955-62 inc 63 CSR models.
