The kickstart is stiff, doesn't self return to the top, so got to investigate .
First, drain gearbox, but there appear to be two fittings underneat, one looks too be too big and meaty for just a drain plug, the other .. I'm not sure, but have read somewhere that one is somekind of locating peg .. (which sounds frightening .. )
Secondly, can I remove the end cover with the footpeg in place, or do I need to remove it first?
Last thought .. is there an :exploded diagram of the box ,. I'd like to see the kickstart arrangement..
Thanks

As it's a '59 here's the one for the AMC 'box.
Pt. No.040138
Full drawings which show the whole box incl k/s arrangement is in the link below to Christians Archive here:
http://archives.jampot.dk/technical/Tra ... rawing.pdf
It would be time well spent if you familiarised yourself with what's in Christians Archive as you'll also find exploded dia's and overhaul instructions for everything about our bikes.
Under 'Technical' in the Archive you'll find articles on pure techy stuff. For the gearbox go to: 'Technical'............'Transmission''......... 'AMC'

Thank you, S & JB
Had just about convinced myself it was the big from looking at illustrations of the plug so you postings were very timely ..
I had spend most of the morning looking through and downloading stuff in Christians Archive, but must have been wearing blinkers ..
Thanks again, both ..

Yes, there's so much in the Archive that stuff is easily missed and it does take a while to get to know what's there and where to look for it.
I get the impression that it's a very under-used resource which seems a shame as between the Archive, the Forums and the Technical Articles there's virtually every bit of info one could ever need.

As you say, there's so much stuff ..
F Neill's book on the Twins came with the bike, and there is an exploded diagram of the gear box, but though the parts are numbered, there isn't a reference table .. but after today, I have a better idea of what/where the bits are ..

Tip.......
If you put the part number in the club spares search box or look it up in the factory spares list in the Archives it'll give you a description as to what part it is.
E.g. from the club spares website:
