Burman B52 kickstart return

I have been looking for information about fitting the kickstart spring and how it is tensioned .
I have stripped and assembled the gearbox to repair a stripped thread into the main casing.I stopped the kickstart lever rotating by tying it up.
Now the kickstart lever is a bit reluctant to return and spring tension seems light. I have seen a comment about moving the outer cover a bit.
Any advice please.
