Alternator rotor nut locking washer, 650 twin
Hi
I bought a new locking tab washer for the alternator rotor retaining nut on a 1960 650 twin, part number 023134, but it was a bit too small to fit over the shaft. I then found another part, 025267, described as for '59 onwards. Aha, I thought, that'll be it, but no, it's the same. Not a major issue as it can be modified, or a new one made, but any idea what I should be using?
Thanks,
Malcolm

Malcolm can you expand slightly on the fit. Is it just a little tight on the shaft? Only reason for asking is we had 40 delivered quite a while ago and over half have sold with only 1 return but with no explanation as to why.

Re: Alternator rotor nut locking washer, 650 twin
Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, I haven't had a chance to get out to the bike.
The outside diameter of the threaded end of the crankshaft measures 19mm. The old tab washer's internal diameter is 19.4mm; the new ones are 16.5mm. Interestingly the ones that I bought, 023134, and then 025267 ('59 onwards) are identical.
Does that help at all?
Cheers,
Malc

Thanks Malc that helps. It appears that there maybe a historical cock up and a supplier has made 2 version of the lock washer but with differing size holes and they've also been listed incorrectly. 023134 is for non alternator models. I've corrected the description but will have the guys check the suitability.MalcW wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 9:15 am Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, I haven't had a chance to get out to the bike.

Re: Alternator rotor nut locking washer, 650 twin
023134 is for singles only, smaller hole, so not appropriate for a 650 twin. The photo on the site has confused the issue because the listing for 023134 shows the twin 025267 type. The correct 023134 tab washer is round.

Spot on, I did some digging around in the manuals last night and came to exactly the same conclusion.
It's obviously something that a supplier has dropped off at Kettering and told them what it's for and been taken at face value. Now I've untangled the mess I've got to sort it out!

Once you've managed to untangle things, and if you find any of the correct ones, can you pop a note in here?ajscomboman wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 5:28 pmSpot on, I did some digging around in the manuals last night and came to exactly the same conclusion.

Or maybe, as I pointed out the discrepancy, buy a correct one from me?
