1949 Tool Box Stay part no. 011738

Post by Invicta »

I have at last sourced a tool box for my 1949 model 18 that appears to be correct for 1949. The holes line up with the two lugs on the top of the frame rail and one other hole from what I have read on the forum is for a bolt that goes through to the rear mudguard. There is another threaded hole in the top left hand corner of the tool box that I can't see what it is for. The parts book does not have any diagrams of the tool box or its fastenings. It simply lists the parts. Amongst which is part number 011738, which is described as 'Stay for tool box' . It also lists various bolts and a spacer STD-639, tool box seat stay bolt. Can anyone please tell me what size this stay 011738 is and where it fixes to., and how thick this spacer is. A photograph of a rigid frame with the tool box mounted on the top of the frame would be most helpful. I have a 1950 model 18 but that is no use for comparison as the tool box is mounted under the rear frame top tube and not on top of it as for 1949. Invicta.

Thank you so much Spriddler that is brilliant . If the stay is not available I can fabricate one now that I can see what it is supposed to look like and where it fits.

Just when I thought I had it sorted . The stay part No. 011738 is not available . Not really too much of a problem I can fabricate one I thought. Then I looked up the part number for 1948 only to find it is different from 1949 being 40-G3-F158 modern part No. 017017. I have no idea what the difference between these two stays is, as both tool boxes are mounted in the same place on top of the rear frame rail. If anyone knows what this difference is I would like to know. Otherwise I will be making a stay as per Spriddler's photograph, as neither stays seem to be available. Invicta.
