magneto adjustment

Post by mavs »

Hi,
1952 ajs c16ms.
Can anyone tell me the size of spanner ( and where to buy it )necessary to loosen and adjust the magneto base bolts so I can align the cogs in the timing case.
I've just converted it to electronic ignition and noticed that the cogs where not in line.
Cheers

I think they're 1/4 Whitworth.

Google 'Whitworth and BSF spanner sets' and you'll get loads of choices and qualities (and prices) or new.
You get what you pay for, but then 'occasional use only' maybe makes it less important. Open enders with slimmish jaws and slim ringspanners and sockets win hands down over cheap fat ones though.
Plenty of 2nd hand usually on e-bay etc too.

Just a note .. forgive me if already aware .. because you need a 1/4 whit spanner doesnt mean the thread is 1/4 whit .. could also be 5/16 BSF or 5/16 cycle thread ..
