silencer mountings

Post by chris goldson »

I have just removed the silencers on my model 30 for a good clean and was surprised to see that the mounting bolts actually go in from the inner foot peg area. On my previous bikes they have mounted on the pegs themselves so I was wondering if it is possible to remove the foot pegs from the frame if i want to at some time or are they a permanent fixture?

Hi

The passenger footrests are attached by longitudinal pivot bolts, (part number 011599), take these out and the footrest can be removed.

Longitudinal pivot bolt? I thought this was too big a mouthful for a 1956 parts list and sure enough they call it a hinge bolt

I have never seen a silencer fixed to a passenger foot peg. As foot pegs are hinged.
I am amazed to be informing someone, you can undo the hinge blot and nut to remove the foot peg,
You can now get Parts lists, Instruction books and Workshop manuals free.

I can only think Chris means the mounting lug, which is permenantly welded to the frame, not the footrest itself. On C, CS, CSR models and many other makes ie Royal Enfield, the silencer fits on the stud holding the footrest. Model 30 fits on studs screwed into the back of the lug.
