BASKET CASE !

Post by db133 »

Been looking for a long time for any information on

" Early clutch baskets had loose friction inserts retained within the chainwheel assembly. "

where is the information relating to this I am now bewildered

I just wanted to find infomation clutch basket reline service ?

but the above infers they are 'loose' so where are they to purchase ?

Page 49 7 next page of the 57-64 of the service manual has pictures of early and late clutches

is this correct ?

Are the service manauals on the site for reference ?

where do I find my menbership number and help ?

Yes the inserts in the chainwheel are loose. I don't know of anywhere that sells them You could make them from a cork tile or other friction material or you could convert to the later clutch. The picture in the manual are correct of course. They show the 2 types, one has tangs on the outside, the other has the tangs on the inside.

If the inserts you want are the same size as in a clutch friction plate, you could get a new friction plate from the club, cheaper than the inserts you found.

I got the inserts from Supreme Motorcycles, Leicester. But that was a long time ago (15/20 years). Worth checking to see if they still have some.

I still have my original membership number, three figures, but the record does not reflect the actual length of membership. Don't know why. Don't really care.

Just a thought.

I had a similar problem damn things just kept falling out should I remove the clutch, an Aussie member suggested I visit the local tractor supplier etc; and source a couple of PTO take off clutches, turn 'em to fit and araldite them each side of the chainwheel, I did this, had to sort out thickness and diameter of course on the lathe but I havn't had an iota of a problem with the clutch since.
