1956 Matchless 350 leaking

Post by Ezmerelda1 »

Where would I get the Silicone gasket from for my primary chain case please. I've heard they are better than anything else?

I think you're mixing 2 things here. No-one does a silicone gasket as far as I know. The new pattern gasket from the club is very good and is a soft spongy type. The silicone you mention is a process using 2 pieces of melamine chipboard. The whole chaincase needs to be removed, cleaned and a thick bead of silicone applied to the joint faces. Press these down on the melamine and leave overnight to set. Next day trim around the edge with a knife, ease off the melamine and you have 2 perfectly flat joint faces. Assemble in the normal way but lightly grease the joint faces. This method works very well but is time consuming and messy. It does work, I tried it, and once done it lasts and can be dismantled easily. But I find the new pattern club seal is best.
