I have followed this with interest ..
I'd be the first to admit my brakes are not the best, but it's a long time since I had my previous machine and don't really know what to expect.
Before I take the shoes out and send them away, as recommended, I was wondering ..
My bike is a 1956 (sort of) 16ms .. are all full width hubs and brakes the same, regardless of year and model?

Yes full width and half width hub both have the same brake shoes, and the linings are about the width of your thumb!

What an improvement ! The new soft lining have bedded in quickly, and the front brake is now efficient, even at very low speed. Rear one is now doing its (small) part of the job. For only 70 € including VAT + postage, it Worth the money spent. No need for me of an expensive TLS.
Thanks for your advices.
Kind regards. J.N.

I've come late into this and Jean-Noel has clearly had a great result. Personally, I found the chamfering of the linings and removal of part of the lining of the trailing (?memory failure) shoe as in Spriddler's post ages ago had a really good effect on my G80S.
Once I have all the other stuff done I may, nonetheless, send the shoes away to Villiers Services.
I also found that the quality of the front brake cable made a difference.
