Chain rivets

Post by uktom77 »

My searches have not revealed an answer .... I want to extend my chain and just need to source some suitable rivets. Can anyone point me in the direction of a source of these?

I can find half/cranked links etc. but nobody supplying just rivets.

Get a crank link here.

Using crank links will need 2 joining links. You could get a new chain with the number of links you want.

Hi

Never seen them supplied alone - always as links with one side to be peened.

Thanks Rob/Mick.

I have two good (new) chains so don't really want to buy a new one if I can source rivets and create what I want from the two.

I've never seen rivets available separately but they must exist to enable those such as (the sadly missed) sprockets unlimited to create their chains.

Probably do not sell rivite's only because in the wrong hands they could result in death.

Surprised to see those cranked links held together with split pins!

They are only supposed to be used in low speed conditions such as chain driven or hand operated roller shutters and machine automation drives. As stated in Rob's picture they are not suitable in high speed driven applications. Imagine my shock when I had a twin in last month that had one on! Pulling a chair no less as well! A split link that fell apart and the cranked one with a split pin! :o :o Needless to say before it left the workshop it went out with a new chain and correct split link on.

Just a thought, why don't you contact Jason the chainman, he'll be able to tell you what you can and can't do and maybe able to supply something.

That makes sense (not to be used on something you're sat on!). Have dropped Jason a line, will see what he comes back with - thank you.

Looks like it may be a new chain, seems a shame - for the sake of a rivet (and my wallet).
