TDC home brew

Post by G3L1946 »

Good morning all,

Let me start by stating that ‘ I’m not trying to re-invent the wheel’. I know this project is not new but I felt I would like to share this particularly with the less confident of ‘engineers’ ( of which I number ). With limited tools I made a passable, and usable, TDC holder for a standard test dial. A bit scruffy but it does work and, in conjunction with a timing disc, makes ignition timing a tad easier to set up.
I have omitted the probe in the photo but attach one suitable for the job in hand. I ask plenty of advice on this forum and always receive excellent advice so I hope, in some small way, this may help and encourage someone else.

Regards,

Steve

Many of these use standard metric threads (M2.5 x 0.45) for the probes so you can buy extra long rods for them. Even swapping out for a flat head might improve the ease of the readings.

Mitutoyo sell them for ok prices (YMMV),

Quite correct jackstringer. I purchased extensions from AB tools but are on sneezebay too.
