I tend to agree with you Roger but perhaps the loosening of the rules is because many members who used to attend are now too old or incapacitated for camping. Heading that way myself with problems with one knee, fallout from a number of accidents, but I will be camping this year. Personally I remain in favour of changing the name to the Autumn Jampot Rally.

I assume that was a tongue in cheek comment, Roger, as I see you're 84 so maybe that's why you don't go any more. ;) We are all getting older
I don't know about the club generally, but I'd geuss the average age of our section is around 70, if not a tad older. In fact one of the rally run co-leaders is 82.

I'm 77 and won't be taking a bike at all as I haven't been able to ride the Matchless (virtually one-armed for the past 11 years), so happy to be based onsite all the time as contact/security/general dogsbody/wine taster.
I've done Alternatives in a field with just a Portaloo and a tap but nowadays if it was only ridden attendance with camping gear I doubt that it would be viable. It's no easy task (we've viewed quite a few potentials) to find a location for a 'Bikers' rally with a co-operative owner and a pub at or near the site with a co-operative landlord. Since the financial hit of the pandemic and with the rising cost of living all leisure businesses have raised their prices quite considerably.

The camping site owner has been very helpful and supportive (we've the whole site to use) and the pub is a welcoming motorcyclists' pub with excellent beers and food so I'm sure it'll be great meeting up with chums for a bit 'o banter and the pleasures of riding in the Sussex countryside.

I'll be available evenings with 6 seats to do taxiing if really necessary.

Nev was only joking , as we don't want vehicle movements on / off site other than motorbikes on the runs . Those that have chosen to attend on a visiting basis will be making their own transport arrangements . we have to respect the site and others who are camping there not connected with the rally. Its our local camp site and would like to leave on Sunday still welcome back in the future

So I guess the answer Duncan is no 'taxi service to your tent' . See you Friday Duncan !

With modern tents it was a pleasure in the continuous heavy rain at the Alternative in Cornwall.

Andy is wringing out his jumper although it's hidden behind the hatted chap. Oh, how we laughed.

No need to book a table for the soggy breakfast.

Chilton Section was one of the wettest I've been to. The cricket ground boiler room was awash with wringing wet gear bring dried out! We camped in the outfield, can't imagine ever being allowed to go that nowadays.
