Just for information... having removed the outer cover, if you disconnect the selector rods from the selector drum by removing the two split pins and dowels, you can push both the two selector rods in to their fullest extent. This will select two gears at the same time, effectively locking the gearbox. That way, you can undo the sprocket retaining nut without the primary drive being in place.

I use a mix of liquid grease and 50 wt in my CP box and my now departed GB. The addition of oil makes the grease flow a little more freely and certainly reduces leaks. Liquid grease can be 0, 00 or 000 grade, thinnest to thickest, so any oil added may vary to achieve a reasonable flow or self levelling in the box at least. Gear change same as it always was...

I’m running Penrite Semi-fluid in both my ‘48 CP and my ‘53 B52 boxes with no ill effects so far(?!) apart from slightly heavier changes on the B52. Even some of that occasionally finds its way out.
Just a quick return to this subject. I've purchased 1KG of Dynolite semi-liquid grease. For oil in that gearbox it recommends 1 Pint. I've put around half the kg of grease in. Should the grease equal the pint of oil in which case that would be just over the 1/2 kg?

I had a look at the 1946 manual for a CP gearbox which was grease it says 1lb 14oz (30oz) which is 0.850kg, then in 1948 when it was oil filled the handbook states 20 fluid ozs. (1 pint), 568 c.c. which is 0.59kg (Water)/0.52kg (Cooking Oil) so possibly following the old adage put a bit more in until it starts leaking out.
