Stick On Knee Grip Adhesive?

Hi

I'm having a bad day with my searches, I'm sure this must have been asked before but I can't find it

I need to attach the knee grip rubbers to my fuel tank, they are the thin, stick on version fitted in the mid 60's.

I have: Contact adhesive, PVA, Double sided adhesive tape and Epoxy on site. I can get silicone, polyurethane, cyanoacrylate etc.

Does anyone have any experience / recommendations of products that they have successfully used?

Good old fashioned solvent based contact will be fine, the water based shit is just that! I've had my grips stuck on for years so far and not had any issues.

I used silicon sealant but its not petrol proof if you have a spillage so i sold the bike

When I stuck the knee grips back onto the tank of my '68 Tiger 90, I used double-sided adhesive sheets. They are 3M 300LSE. They are super strong and have been on for a while now with no sign of lifting. I degreased the tank and pads with brake cleaner before sticking them on.
A quick search on eBay will give you a lot of suppliers and sheet sizes.

The 1928 AJS K12 only had it since 1993 and still not running!

1928 AJS rubbers were stuck on an oval shape wooden block. The wooden block fitted in the holder secured by a single wood screw. You may find repro's are one solid lump of rubber.You should find the the screw hole at the rear of the knee grip holder.
If using any type glue follow instructions. Example water slide transfers stick via a water based glue. Many complain the transfers do not stick, some people even apply a few coats of clear varnish. They complain transfers then crinkle. That's because they have tried to stick the transfers on paintwork coated with Silicon / Wax polish.

Thanks Rob I have solid rubber ones but prefer the look of the aftermarket John Bull ones which came with it.m
