Crank pinion spacer 016210 plain or oil scroll

Post by LynP »

Hi, I have another question regarding my 1961 G12 engine rebuild. Part no.016210 crank pinion spacer, please can anyone tell me if it should have an oil scroll on the outer, or is it plain? Also
should it be 7/16" wide as in 1961 genuine AMC spares book or 7/32" as spare scheme list? Thanks, Lyn

It should be scrolled as it's supposed to push oil back into the crankcase. Some have made a plain one, machined for an oil seal. Can't help with the width but I would think it's 7/16" as 7/32 doesn't sound right. Perhaps that's the washer on the other end.

Dave thank you for your post. I think you may be referring part no.023163 the engine sprocket spacer which as you say originally had an oil scroll, (I am thinking of doing the oil seal conversation that side using a plain spacer). 016210 is on the other side (timing side) under the gear on the crank.

Update on my post, I have now found 2 spacers in a box of bits, both measure 7/32" long and one has witnesses from the crank cog so I think that's the right width and the AMC spares lists are wrong! Can anyone confirm that? So well done the spares scheme. One has an oil scroll on the outer diameter the other is smooth. I assume the scroll carries oil onto the crank cog, so I think I should use that one. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Lyn

I have 3, all of which come from 60/61 engines. All are 7/32" (measuring with a ruler) and all have the oil scroll.

Thank you Les for checking your spacers, your findings are just the confirmation I needed and so the scrolled one is going in. Cheers, Lyn.

I too am rebuilding my 61 G12 CSR. It broke the crank (see pic). I have the original part that doesn't fit on the new crank, as it is a little too small, both in diameter and in the keyway. So, should I ream it to fit and open up the keyway, or do the oil seal "fix"?

Is there a link to the oil seal "fix" so I can check it out and put it on this motor?

Thanks in advance. By the way, the rods you see are from Thunder Engineering.

If you can't get one, I would open them out if you can do it accurately enough. It'll be hard steel so you'll need tipped tools and cutting fluid. Beyond me I'm afraid, I'm a woodworker not an engineer! :D
