Yes Grumpy made it all the way home despite no speedo! Apparently it's a common fault on the electronic type speedos, the rotating magnet and pick up crack and fail to send a signal to the head. EXPENSIVE to repair! 
Last 90 miles were in very heavy rain where seeing the lane markings was almost impossible, still it wouldn't be an IJR journey if I didn't get rained on at some point!
