gasket for pre mono block carburettor to stop fuel leak?

Post by Matt_in_QLD_Aus »

My pre monoblock carby (type 76) is leaking petrol. I've tried to fix this by tightening the part but to no avail (see image)
The black gasket is quite thin and hard and the surface it needs to seal against is broad i.e., no little ridges etc to help the sealing.
So I'm not surprised that it leaks (albeit just some pesky weeping).
I'm not sure if this gasket material is the correct type and maybe a gasket made of softer stuff would seal OK?
I need some advice... anyone else experienced this problem; should I use a softer material and/or a suitable sealing compound as well?

I think the part is no.25 in the illustration. It seems to be a substantial washer.

It appears to be the one available in a repair kit from the club.
