Fuel Tank

Post by bike63 »

Can anybody recommend a way of de-rusting and sealing the inside of a tank - an effective method or product they've used ? Hard to see inside, so not sure how bad it is. Should have thought of this before having the tank painted, so I need to be careful with what I use.

Buy a 2 litre bottle of Cola, it contains about 5 to 7% phosphoric acid and will remove light rust.

When you derust the tank you might find it has pinholes if the metal is thin in places, I found out the hard way after painting my
Tank, but hey you live and learn.

Thanks .. came across something the other day saying that the acid in 'Coke' made it better than water to use with aluminium foil for cleaning up deteriorating chrome .. so supermarket cola would probably do the job ..

I sent my 1958 AJS M18 tank here, came back paintwork intact. It is lined inside with what looks like cream vitreous enamel. I have not had any trouble from it in 4 years.Highly reccommend.
