70 years of the AJS and Matchless Owners Club

Post by clive »

It all started on 17 th January 1952 when John Trant wrote a letter in Motorcycling magazine asking about a meeting of local AMC owners. As a result the first meeting was held at the Ace Cafe on the North Circular in late January 1952. So on Sunday 16th January 2022 the Ace Cafe will be hosting a ride in to celebrate. It will be cold, it may be raining but let's turn out on AJS and Matchless machines to celebrate the start of our club. More details nearer the day, get it in your diary. Contact West London section or me at adverts@jampot.com if you are thinking of riding in, we are.

Unfortunately I don't expect to have my Matchless back on the road until shortly before Easter 2022.

Its a fair distance from you too Johnny, i was thinking more about people living more locally. I am sure the club will be put on something later in the year. We are lookIng for hardy souls who can meet the winter riding challenge set by John Trant all those years ago. (Surrey, East Berks, Sussex Essex and East london etc)

OOppss. 16 January 2022 is well before Easter 2022. I do experience scanning errors when reading. But not this time (makes a change). Ironically, I, too, was born in 1952.

This sounds a good idea. The A5 leads me most of the way there and if it's really slippery the sidecar outfit will be even more fun!

We are hoping people will join us between 11 am and 2 pm on the 16 January 2022 at the ACE cafe for the 70th anniversary of the start of the club. The picture is of the two machines that made it to the 65th Anniversary. Lets hope for a better turnout, mind you it was wet and I only live about 5 miles away!

Me too, it’s in the diary, particularly as I now have a Matchless with lighting!
